Songs for our nativity Term 4 09 We need to learn the words!

A cross of stars ‘Wherever I go’ page 21 words and music by Andrew Chinn

Across these great lands she brought the good news
With courage and love in her heart
That faith and hope and love may live
Beneath a cross of stars
Beneath a cross of stars

Early in life she heard God’s call
The call of Christ to stand with the poor
To serve like Joseph, to serve in deed
To teach, to love, to answer a need

Soon others saw Mary’s shining light
They came from far and they came from wide
To stand with the poor to teach with the young
To see that Christ’s song would one day be sung

“Have courage no matter what your crosses are,”
This Mary knew when times were hard
She trusted in God, and God did provide
And Mary’s love travelled far and wide

Across a vast land from North to South
And to the land of the Long White Cloud
She carried her dream, she followed her call
So that our faith would live in us all

Ka waiata ki a Maria
Hine i whakaae
Whakameatia mai
Hei whare tangata [tangata]
Hine purotu, hine ngakau,
Hine rangimarie
Ko te whaea, ko te whaea
O te ao [a te ao]

I sing to Mary, our Mother
The one who heard God’s call
The call to be the mother
Of our Lord [of us all]
Gentle woman, loving mother
Our lady Queen of peace
I sing to Mary, the mother of our Lord
[Of us all]

It came upon a midnight clear

It came upon a mid-night clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
Peace on earth goodwill to men
From heaven’s all gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing

It came upon a midnight clear
It came upon a midnight clear

For lo the days are hastening on
By prophets seen of old
When with the ever circling years
Shall come the time foretold
When the new heaven and earth shall own
The Prince of Peace their King
And the whole wide world send
Back the song
Which now the angels sing

It came upon a midnight clear
It came upon a midnight clear

O come to the stable words and music by S.M Jerome

O come to the stable and see who is there
O come in so softly tread gently with care
A baby is lying on rough manger straw
The fair-est the dear-est that ever you saw

O come to the stable words and music by S.M Jerome

O come to the stable and see who is there
O come in so softly tread gently with care
A baby is lying on rough manger straw
The fair-est the dear-est that ever you saw

Calypso carol ‘Celebrate tape’ side B track 7

See him a lying on a bed of straw
A draughty stable with an open door
Mary cradling the babe she bore
The Prince of Glory is his name

Oh now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord
Appear to men
Just as far as was the stable then
The Prince of Glory when he came

Shower of silver sweep across the skies
Show where Jesus in the manger lies
Shepherds swiftly from your sleepiness
To see the saviour of the world

Oh now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord
Appear to men
Just as far was the stable then
The Prince of Glory when he came

Angels sing again the song you sang
Bring God’s glory to the heart of men
Sing that Bethlehem’s little baby can
Bring salvation to this world

Oh now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord
Appear to men
Just as far as was the stable then
The Prince of Glory when he came

Do you agree with our arguments? Some more expositions!

Exposition
I disagree that children should eat a whole lot of lollies a day because it rots your teeth.
Firstly the sugar is bad for your teeth and you will have to go to the dentist.
Secondly your parents will waste a lot of money on your teeth.
Thirdly you will have to get braces.
NZ children should eat healthy food because it gives them more energy.
Matthew
Exposition
I disagree that every child should have lollies because you will be unhealthy.
Firstly your teeth will rot because you will be eating too many lollies.
Secondly you will get fat.
Thirdly you will get cancer.
Finally you will get bankrupt because you will go the dentist many times.
That’s why New Zealand people should not eat lollies every day.
Tom
Exposition
I disagree children should have lollies every day because you will get fat because of the sugar.
Firstly your teeth will rot and your parents will have to pay to take you to the dentist.
Secondly your teeth will get holes in your teeth and the dental nurse will have you drill your teeth out.
Thirdly it would be a waste of money because all you do is eat it. You might come across something you really like but you would not have enough money to buy it.
Finally you would go hyper because of the sugar.
All NZ children could die because they would get full of sugar.
Josh
Exposition
I disagree that children should be able to eat lollies every day because they would have to brush their teeth more.
Firstly the candy store would run out of sugar and candy.
Secondly the dentist is not always open.
Thirdly children will not have enough pocket money if they come across something that they want.
Finally if they have too much sugar they will become ill.
So Parents, don’t let your kids have lollies every day.
Dominic

Exposition
I disagree that children should not eat lollies every day because my Parents would have to pay money for my fillings.
Firstly your mum and dad would have to pay lots of money.
Secondly it will make your teeth rotten. I know that you can buy toothpaste but your parents still have to pay for that!
Thirdly it will make you fat and unhealthy.
Finally they have to pay for the lollies.
You should eat healthy food.
Christopher
Exposition
I absolutely disagree because if children eat lollies and chocolate every day your teeth will rot so much and if that happens you are making it expensive for your parents.
Firstly your teeth will rot so much that you might have to go to the dentist every day.
Secondly you will get so fat, that you will regret it so much, that you will say, “Why did I eat this much lollies and chocolate?”
Finally if you are eating lollies and chocolate every day, then you are not keeping the world healthy because if you are eating chocolate and lollies every day your sugar level will get high and you might die.
Sahil

Exposition writing - Can you see the statement of position? ..the emotive verbs and the series of arguments and a conclusion!

ExpositionEvery child shouldn’t eat lollies every day.
I firmly disagree that everybody should eat lollies everyday because you can get sick, and if you get too sick, you might die.
Firstly your teeth will rot and your parents will have to work harder for more money.
Secondly parents will have to keep wasting their money going to the dentist.
Thirdly their parents will have to work harder because their children will go crazy.
Finally you have to pay for the lollies, that’s why I think it is not a good idea eating lollies every day.
By Ben
Exposition
I strongly believe that all children should not eat lollies because it is bad for your health.
Firstly….your teeth will rot and your parents will have to pay for new ones.
Secondly you will get fat and you will have health problems with sugar and you will get injections and they will see your blood pressure.
Thirdly, also you can get hyper and your parents will have work much harder to stop you from getting hyper.
Finally you will get lollies but you will have to go on a diet and do more exercise.
Gerry
Exposition
I disagree that all children should not eat lollies every day.
Firstly you will have to go to the dentist every weekend and I wouldn’t like that!
Secondly you will lose teeth. If you lose all your teeth you’ll be gummy.
Thirdly it will cost money and if you buy too many lollies you will go bankrupt.
Finally if you eat too many lollies you will get hyper and you will mess up your home and your parents will have to clean up.
If you get fat you will die and healthy people know what to eat.
Cole

Exposition
I strongly believe that children shouldn’t eat lollies every day because of the sugar.
Firstly your teeth will rot and your parents will have to pay the price.
Secondly your teeth will have a hole and you will have to go to the dentist. The dentist is not always open.
Thirdly if you get sick you won’t be able to go to school for a whole week.
Finally the doctor’s nurse will make you have to go and drill your teeth.
I strongly recommend that every child in the world should brush their teeth every day.
Alexander
Exposition
I believe that every child should not eat lollies every day.
Firstly you will get cavities.
Secondly your parents will have to pay for the lollies.
Thirdly your parents will have to pay to get your teeth fixed.
Finally you would have too much sugar in your body and your body would get very sick.
We need to keep New Zealand children healthy. We need to give them vegetables too.
Keep them strong and healthy.
Jack
Exposition
I disagree that every child should have lollies every day.
Why? Why shouldn’t we? Well firstly the lollies make your teeth rot so your parents have to pay more money for the dentist.
Secondly your parents have to work harder because the lollies make you go hyper.
Thirdly when your child sees something he would like, then his mum or dad couldn’t buy it, because his mum or dad has no money because their mum or dad would have spent it on lollies.
Finally the children would get fat from the lollies.
So please…. Do not feed your child lollies!

Learning how an exposition works-an argument T3 09 We are showing shared leadership.

We are working as a team and learning about how to write an exposition.
The provocative statement Mrs Garland gave us was 'All people in Wellington should live in Coober Pedy'. We read an exposition. Then we linked our thinking to the Coober Pedy statement.
We wrote our title. The group worked on the position statement.
The position statement sets the scene for what we believe as a group.

The Buddhist Monastery in Stokes Valley and St Albans with Reverend Damon Plimmer T3 09

Bodhinyanarama is a monastic sanctuary situated in a 51 hectare (126 acre) wooded valley near Wellington, New Zealand. The monastery is the focus for a thriving Buddhist community and serves a variety of functions. While principally a residence for those wishing to participate or train in the monastic lifestyle, the large public area and meeting hall are used for religious festivals, public meetings and retreats. The forested area with remote lodgings provides a suitable environment for seclusion. The senior monks instruct in meditation, teach Buddhist principles, lead retreats and provide religious services for the Buddhist community, both at the monastery and at other venues in New Zealand and Australia.

Damon Plimmer spoke to the children about St Albans, the history, the celebrations and the festivals of the church.
